David Akva, LCSW-C

David Akva earned his degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, specializing in clinical social work and interdisciplinary care. He integrates a wide range of therapeutic modalities into his practice, including EMDR, CBT, mindfulness-based body psychotherapy (Somatic Experiencing and Hakomi), and a year of specialized training in Contemporary Orgone (Reichian) Therapy. David continues to explore advanced trainings that deepen his ability to address the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

David specializes in working with adolescents and adults facing PTSD, depression, and anxiety. He is equally passionate about couples and family therapy, drawing on a systems-based approach that integrates body-mind awareness. Believing in the profound connection between the inner and outer worlds, David helps clients build coping skills and self-awareness by reconnecting them with their innate resources.
More than talk therapy, David’s approach is an experiential journey. He creates a safe, judgment-free space where clients can fully express themselves—whether through laughter, tears, anger, or simply being still—while developing the tools they need to heal and grow. Outside the therapy room, David enjoys spending time with loved ones, outdoor adventures, and immersing himself in music.
