What Is LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy?

LGBTQ+ affirming therapy is care that treats your identity as central to understanding your life, not something to be fixed. It is a space where assumptions are set aside, where questions about gender and sexuality are welcomed, and where the social and cultural realities that shape your experience are taken seriously. Therapy helps you name what matters, clarify goals, and build skills so your life better reflects who you are.

Why Choose Couples Therapy?

Queer people deserve a therapeutic space where they can be their full and authentic selves without worry or reservation. Some folks are navigating the challenges of coming out or reconciling with unsupportive family members. Others are exploring the joys and challenges of sex, dating, or authentic gender expression in the community. Some wish to process their terror in a political climate that is increasingly hostile towards LGBTQ+ individuals. Others simply wish to seek healing for their anxiety, depression, or complex trauma without having to worrying about the distractions of a therapist who is unfamiliar with the nuances of their identity. LGBTQ+ affirming therapy ensures you are seen, respected, and supported in all the layers of your identity so healing can actually begin.

Our Approach

At Healthridge, we believe it is vital that LGBTQ+ clients are partnered with a practitioner that they can trust. Tim Hughes Williams (LMSW) has years of experience working in the queer community and combines somatic interventions with a psychodynamic approach to therapy. He works with clients to help facilitate the healing of mind, spirit, and core relationships using modalities like IFS (Internal Family Systems) and trauma-informed care. He enjoys working with individuals and couples who are 18 and older.

Tim offers virtual sessions, with daytime and limited evening availability. He is paneled with BCBS and Cigna insurances and if also open to working with self-pay clients

What to Expect in Sessions

Your first session will clarify what brought you here and what you want to change. From there, we build a plan that may include exploring identity, processing past hurts, learning grounding and regulation techniques, and practicing new ways of relating. Sessions are confidential, respectful, and aimed at helping you regain a sense of safety, agency, and belonging.

Insurance and Billing

Healthridge accepts many major insurance plans for individual therapy. Sessions are available in person and online through a secure telehealth platform. For private pay clients, we offer flexible and sliding scale options for those who qualify. If you are seeking group programs or workshops, please note these are typically not covered by insurance, fees vary, and we can discuss options when you reach out.
